Did you know the Winter olympics start next week? As you know, Twirl is from Utah and Salt Lake City hosted the 2002 Winter Olympics. We are all about the games here in the rocky mountain west. And I personally am OBSESSED. I love figure skating and have been fortunate enough to train along side many Olympians. So for me, the Olympics are extra special.
In 2002, I was living in Seattle but I got tickets for the games. I came to Utah and stayed with family. I remember taking Traxs from Sandy to down town SLC. The city was full of RED ,WHITE AND BLUE and lots of electric energy. Athletes from all over the world were wandering the streets and enjoying the festivities.
That was the year Sarah Hughes won the GOLD for Figure skating. USA USA USA! I was there, in the Delta Center. Second to last row- way up high. I still remember the energy. I remember the shouting, the joyous feeling. I remember the American flag being raised and the anthem being played. I remember being overcome with emotion, like most of the other 20,000 audience members in attendance.
This year, even though the Olympics are in Milan, Italy, I will be wearing my red, white and blue while sitting in my house, watching on TV. This sweatshirt is a must if I do say so myself.
So, who are YOU cheering on this February?
