Pretty in Pink

Pretty in Pink

Did you know it's been almost 40 years since the movie Pretty in Pink came out? I'm dying. How can that be considering I'm only 33 yrs old? cough cough

I loved this movie and watched it so many times (rented from our local mom and pop VHS rental- long before BlockBuster existed- RIP.).Anyway, for those who aren't familiar with the film, I've asked ChatGPT to tell you about it. It's so cute I had to share.
+++++++++++++++

So boom: Andie is this artsy, thrift-core queen who’s basically serving Depop vibes before Depop even existed. She’s living her best DIY life, working a retail job, and minding her business — until she catches feelings for Blane, who is essentially a soft-boy with rich-kid WiFi.

Enter Duckie: Andie’s ride-or-die bestie who is down bad for her. Like… rehearsing-a-musical-number-in-the-record-store down bad. He’s giving chaotic good energy, but Andie’s oblivious because she’s busy surviving classism and high school drama.

The plot is basically:

  • Poor girl likes rich boy

  • Rich boy likes poor girl

  • Meanwhile best friend is like “👁️👄👁️ pls notice me”

  • Everyone else is messy for no reason

There’s a school dance, feelings get hurt, outfits get slayed (in a very 80s, shoulder-pad-forward way), and the soundtrack eats so hard it still holds up today.

In the end, Andie chooses what she wants — iconic behavior tbh — and shows up to prom serving custom-made pink couture because she’s THAT girl.

So... let's skip the shoulder pads and DIY and instead... lets swoon over the Ronny Studded Maxi Dress. She's the modern day Pretty in Pink dress.... So cue up that amazing soundtrack and get ready to relive 1986 but in style. xoxo- Twirl
